Wellness trends: What’s hot in 2019?

At Reon, we love discovering new wellness trends as much as anyone. In this blog we’re going to take a look at four of the year’s hottest new trends, which could be coming to an app, bed or dinner plate near you.


1. Self-administered TLC

Following on from the wellness revolution of 2018, it looks as though 2019 is going to be a big year for self-care. While many of us might strive to enjoy a bath and a facemask every once in a while, studies would suggest this just isn’t enough. We’re burning out – and we’re doing very little about it.

The trick to acing 2019 is to become more aware of the pressures you’re placing upon yourself and to address the lifestyle factors you can control. Small changes, such as maintaining a regular bedtime routine and turning your back on your devices into the evening can go a long way towards mental and physical wellbeing. You might also like to explore the growing trend of mindfulness, by way of a yoga class or wellness app. Give yourself a break.

The digital fitness revolution

Who’s got time to go to the gym every day, anyway? Maintaining a healthy relationship with your gym can sometimes be difficult. What with work, relationships and pizza it's easy to see why the gym often comes in second.

However, this year could see the rise of the digital fitness revolution, as sporting companies, scientists and wellness gurus strive to create and deliver a means of working out successfully at home. YouTube has always been a popular source of inspiration, but now with all the live classes and motivational workouts streamed directly to you (often personalised to you individual needs) it's time to jump onboard the home fitness revolution, destination, holiday body.

Technology to aid better sleep

You’re probably used to being told that technology is bad for bedtimes. Mobile phones, tablets and computers operate using blue light, which can play with sleep patterns and our ability to switch off for the evening.

However, scientists have been busy developing all kinds of gadgets and gizmos that can actually help you drift off more easily, including smart mattresses that monitor REM sleep and maintain an ideal temperature for slumber. Compatible with all kinds of smart devices, these mattresses are designed to make us aware of how well (or badly!) we’re sleeping. By gathering data, it can help us to put that right. This new technology is unlikely to come cheap for the time being, but can you really put a price on a decent night’s rest?

Consuming adaptogens 

We’re sure you’ve heard of the term ‘superfoods’. You probably endeavour to include one or two in your daily diet – either as healthy snacks, ingredients or supplements. However, the latest industry love for adaptogenic herbs – or adaptogens – is likely to be a new one to you.

Proven to lower cortisol, reduce stress and sharpen focus, adaptogens are a unique class of plant and they’re going to be popular this year. Asian ginseng, turmeric, astragalus root, liquorice root, reishi mushrooms and holy basil are just a handful of the adaptogens being hailed by scientists. Could it be worth adopting an adaptogen in the quest for a calmer, healthier lifestyle?
